A Little Fall Update from the Amphitrite Studio
I’ve been meaning to get back to the blog, and I figured there was no better time than now. There’s actually quite a lot happening around the Amphitrite Studio lately, and apparently I’ve been too busy making things to stop and talk about them.
So, here’s a little fall catch-up….
There are new aprons in the studio
I’ve been having a lot of fun with aprons lately. Maybe a little too much fun.
The newest collection is a mix of classic linen and some very Maine-inspired prints, including Whales by the Seaside, Blueberry Hill, and a beautiful tan pinstripe.
Aprons have always been one of my favorite things to make because they’re one of those rare kitchen essentials that can actually have some personality. They get used, washed, worn, and lived in, but they can still be beautiful.
And honestly, I think a good apron is one of the best excuses to wear something a little ridiculous while making dinner.
I’m giving the napkin collection a fresh start
I’ve also been doing some housekeeping with the napkins.
Over the years, I accumulated a lot of colors. Eighteen, to be exact, which sounded like a fantastic idea at the time.
It turns out eighteen colors is a lot of colors to keep stocked, photographed, organized, and sewn.
So I’m clearing out some of the older colors and narrowing the collection down to the ones I really love. I’m excited about what’s coming next, especially because I’ve been spending a lot of time choosing linens that feel distinctly Amphitrite.
Warm, natural, slightly unexpected colors. The kind of colors that make you want to put a wooden bowl of apples on the table and call it decorating.
There’s also a greenhouse now
Because apparently I didn’t have enough going on.
We recently put together an 8×10 greenhouse here in Maine, and after quite a bit of work, it’s finally standing in the garden. I am ridiculously excited about it.
I can’t wait to fill it with plants, experiment with what I can overwinter, and figure out what I want to grow next year. But I’m probably just as excited about having a beautiful little space to photograph. I already have visions of future product shoots in there, surrounded by greenery and soft Maine light.
And of course, I’m hoping to use it as a place to experiment with gardening ideas that I can share here, too. What works, what doesn’t, what survives a Maine winter, and all the other little discoveries that come with growing things.
So yes, the greenhouse will probably be making regular appearances around here.
And that’s really what I want Amphitrite to be about
The older I get, the less interested I am in making things just for the sake of making things.
I want the things I make to have a place in someone's everyday life.
A linen towel that gets softer every time you wash it.
An apron that ends up covered in flour and tomato sauce.
Napkins that get pulled out for Tuesday night dinner just as happily as they do for Thanksgiving.
A dish cover that saves you from reaching for plastic wrap yet again.
Things that are useful, but also make ordinary life feel a little nicer.
That’s still the heart of Amphitrite.
I’m just finding my way back to it in a slightly different way.
So, that's the fall update from the studio.
There will be more sewing, more linen, more gardening, probably more plants than I need, and hopefully a lot more here on the blog.
Thanks for still being here.
Now, back to the sewing machine.
